Lucas helped and inspired so many people. Here, they pay testament to him…

  • We were privileged to have Lucas ‘Looky’ Martin in our lives for 21 incredible years. We already had two wonderful sons and Looky completed our family to perfection. We were proud to watch him and his brothers grow into principled and caring young men with their moral compasses set to true north. Lucas has been robbed of his chance to show first-hand what a credit he would have been to society and what a positive difference he would have made to the world. So, our shared life’s mission is now to be his proxy and ensure his values live on through his family, his friends and as many other people as we can reach via lookymartin.com. With love and pride.

    Mum & Dad

  • Lucas was special. He cherished his family. Mum and Dad meant everything to him. He looked up to them, as we both did, and wanted to follow in their footsteps. Taking Mum's caring nature, her loyalty, and strength as well as Dad's determination, ambition, kindness and even his love of motorsport. A testament to our upbringing, our parents are the best anyone could ever ask for. Lucas knew that, and with the characteristics he gained from them, he was destined for greatness. In fact at the age of 21, he had already created a legacy Brad and I will live for. Our kids will know everything about him. And if they grow up to be half the person Lucas was, we'll consider our jobs done.

  • For those of you that are familiar with the Carshop, you’ll know that we’re a family business. And for those of you that have contacted the Carshop or visited us recently, you may well have been lucky enough to deal with my youngest nephew Lucas (Looky to those who knew him). Within weeks of starting at the shop, Lucas may as well have been running the place. His passion, work-ethic, positivity and smile were infectious, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Every morning before I left home for work, I received a text from Lucas, eager to make a plan and get started with the day. He made us laugh, and approached the job with an energy I’ve not experienced from anyone else in my career. He was destined for great things, and our family couldn’t wait to see what he achieved. Forever in our hearts Looky.

  • Lucas was simply the best man of us all. His combination of passion, wisdom, drive and obsession made him the best at any given endeavour. His loyalty as a friend was unmatched and he inspired me to be a better man every day, as he did to all those around him. To Lucas, thank you for being the best friend I could have ever asked for, it was an honour. Your influence will never leave usm

  • I have been lucky enough to have lived my whole life so far full of Lucas’s kindness, encouragement and support. Although life will look a lot different without him, I know the qualities he embodies will inspire me forever. Lucas’s smile will live in my heart and mind forever, from the little boy I met at 6 months old to the 21 one year old man I absolutely adored.

  • In the short time I got to spend with Lucas I was taken aback by his welcomeness, generosity and kindness. He welcomed me into his home and treated me like a brother. I won’t mourn about the times we were going to have in the future but be grateful for the cherished memories we shared together and I’ll consider that my greatest privilege.

  • They say your friends shape who you are. So, it is of no surprise that those who surrounded Lucas have been influenced by his loyalty, drive and kindness. He exemplified these characteristics, and they will forever remain with all those he grew up with. His individual sporting ability was exceptional, but more significant was his ability to raise the standards of those around him. More importantly, he was a true and genuine mate. Never were you more happy than when Lucas was happy, which is a testament to the profound influence his presence had on those around him. His wit was unmatched and he would never fail to make you laugh. This passage captures a mere fraction of his character, but seeks to highlight the immenseness of his aura. I am the man I am today because of Lucas. He will live on with me for the rest of my days. We will meet again, brother.

  • I shared many special years on and off the pitch with Lucas, competing together and against each other. He was not only a special teammate but an incredible friend. His competitive spirit was unparalleled; as captain of our first XV, he drove us to strive for excellence and maintained great squad cohesion as a born leader would. Since leaving KWC, Lucas organised a 6-a-side football team on the island, which reunited the year and has since created many cherished memories. This once again shows his selflessness and willingness to keep us together, which I will be forever grateful for. The memories of our shared victories and his competitive drive continue to inspire me through sport, reminding me of the remarkable friend I had the privilege to call my own.

  • From the early days of playing football on the Buchan playing fields to over a decade later when we reunited playing rugby on College, I am grateful that I had the opportunity to have a friend like Lucas. He made everyone try and be the best version of themselves, he truly wanted people to succeed and was always more than willing to play his part. When I first arrived back at College he was the first to meet me outside the Pavilion and invite me in, for those first couple of weeks he took me around like he was my guide, introducing me to people and showing me around. He did this not because he was told to but because he wanted to, because he was that sort of man, he wanted to make life easier for others. He was all the qualities that we want to embody but very few will ever. The best example of this is probably when I asked him why he rarely wore he full colours blazer, to which he responded that he didn’t want people thinking that he thought he was better than them, when in reality everyone knew he was.

  • Beyond the memories, it is Lucas’ character that I will most fondly recall. A remarkable athlete, I would go on to share the football pitch with Lucas and watch him lead the first team for rugby. It was clear to see that he was talented but Lucas had something extra about him. A charisma, drive and work ethic that is so sparsely found alongside talent. It was obvious to all that he was a natural leader and commanded respect. He was fearless and would defend any of his friends to the death and also push them out of complacency when required. He also had an unsuspecting emotional intelligence, being sensitive, genuine and warm when required. I will never forget his judgement free approach and support for me during my hardest times. His influence will be carried on through generations by those who knew and loved him. To quote an instagram message between us about how people can suffer mentally in today’s society, “maybe we will change that one day Con”. - You will in more ways than you could have imagined, my friend. Godspeed brother, until next time.

  • My favourite memory of Lucas was early in his debut season for the 1st XV, away to Liverpool College. As an U5th student he instantly commanded the respect of his older peers and was particularly impressive in defence. He dictated and managed the game like a wise old head, which outlined his game playing ability. The bossing around of the older pack of forwards and his tenacious approach was a sight to behold and was instrumental in our 15-5 victory. At the full-time whistle, Lucas was grinning like the Cheshire Cat. As a proud coach, I exchanged a knowing look with him. He knew that he’d played well and everyone around him knew what a difference he had made. Like with his friendships, he had been the glue that held everyone together that day. It was magnificent to witness. His humility was also on display, when he was voted man of the match by his peers and the opposition. This boy was special! Lucas was one of the highest ranked players that season, despite being the youngest. He also took up the kicking duties and you could always rely on him, both on and off the pitch. I am extremely grateful to him for everything that he did for KWC. His number 9 jersey will now be hanging up in the Pavilion, inspiring future generations. Lucas will play on in all of our memories!

  • Lucas was an outstanding sportsman. He excelled in Rugby and Football, but could also turn his hand to many other sports. He was a natural leader on the pitch and lead by example. Lucas was fiercely competitive and loved the physical contest Rugby and Football would bring. He loved to tackle – solid in both rugby and football. I used to shudder at some of his hits! He wore his heart on his sleeve and would be the type of lad that would ‘run through brick walls’ for you. Lucas was one of the most talented sportsman I have had the pleasure to teach. But he had so many qualities off the pitch too. He will be massively missed by all that knew him. Thank you Lucas for all that you did for KWC sport!

    Matthew Crabtree

  • I knew Lucas through a mutual friend and despite not being as close as his direct circle of mates, he treated me as an equal and made me feel welcomed in every interaction. Hearing about his life's accomplishments and legacy doesn't surprise me based on my relatively limited experience with him, and I wish I could've been less inhibited in getting to know him better. He was truly an uplifting soul and I have no doubt that his legacy will continue to inspire everyone who had the pleasure to meet him. Until we meet again, rest in peace Lucas.

  • One of many things I can say is that I am very thankful for his open and very kind mind when I first came to KWC. He helped me a lot, included me in every part of the English group, and in a way always made sure I am alright, as English isn't my first language. He also introduced me to Rugby, which I am also thankful for, as by myself I wouldn't have tried it in my first years at KWC. He made my life in KWC as a foreign student, especially in the beginning, bearable as he tried to integrate me wherever he could. He was the best of the best.

  • Lucas has been a great protector in my life, and I can’t thank him enough for all he has done for me. There really are no words to describe him that can come anywhere near to his true self. Lucas never treated anyone indifferently and his loyalty was unmatched. This is something we can only aspire to match. Lucas is a true hero, and has changed the lives of three incredibly special people. I am so proud of the impact he has left, and I will forever look up to him.

    Ella Webster

  • Lucas was a fantastic teammate, captain and friend. During our time at college together we shared many great memories both on and off the rugby field that I will always cherish. Rest easy mate.

    Wilf Kermode

  • When I moved over Lucas was the first person that introduced himself and became a really good friend. In the family house his room will always be known as Lucas’ room’.

    Henry White

  • Although Lucas led an exemplary life in many ways, the characteristics that struck me most were his kindness and generosity. Whilst being the life of the party, he always made sure that everyone was okay and well looked after. Lucas will be greatly missed by many.

    Kate Dowling

  • No words will ever be able to sum up Lucas Martin and the incredible life that he led. Lucas went through his life as being one of the most genuine, honest, most determined person there was to know. I will always remember the laughs we shared over the last few years and remember his iconic DJ booth that always made an appearance in the snooker room. Lucas led his life with optimism, a trait I will take from him and try and live up to. Life won’t be the same without you Lucas but we will all continue to live up to and remember your legacy.

    Elise Telford

  • Lucas was a great guy around school, in the classroom and on the sports field. He was an outstanding sportsman and a role model within his year group and for younger members of King William’s College. Lucas was combative, an example for all and had a never give up attitude. I absolutely loved every minute of coaching and teaching Lucas and he will be a huge miss for the community around the island. His sporting prowess reached across all of the major sports at KWC and he played pivotal roles in all of these. I cannot speak highly enough of Lucas person; he was mature, understanding, funny and had a wise head on such young shoulders throughout the time I was fortunate enough to teach him. The news of his passing is devastating and I would like to take this opportunity to send my condolences to Lucas’ family and friends at such a tough time. Rest in peace, Lucas.

  • Hard to put in to words how unbelievably pure Lucas was. Down to earth, passionate and kind. He was always very honest. If he didn’t like something he’d let you know about it (my wooly jumpers). It was an honor growing up with you Lucas, you have had a big impact on my life and have been there for some of my greatest memories. I learnt a lot from you and will continue to grow from the experiences we shared. Love you lots Martin.

    Patrick McCord

  • There are no words which can do Lucas justice. He was my angel, the most caring, thoughtful and kind friend and brother. I am so honored that out of the all the people in the world I got to know Lucas and live some of my best days with him. My favorite days ever were in 2020 when I came back to the island after Covid and I got to spend a week with Lucas. Going grocery shopping, eating home cooked meals, waking up at 3 am to watch boxing matches and simply just sitting for hours talking about life. Lucas made every place feel like home and his memory will continue to do so.

  • Lucas Martin's dedication, enthusiasm and commitment to The AB Project will never be forgotten. Lucas was passionate about motorsports as well as the Isle of Man, that passion was evident during TT and Manx Grand Prix, Lucas shared his commitment of sustainability to riders and race fans from all around the world. Always forward thinking,he took that passion and commitment one step further, by becoming an organ donor. Our Friend-Our Colleague-Our "A-TEAM". Forever in our hearts.

    Robin Birdsall

  • Lucas truly was the most respected man I know. His sheer passion alone was something that made him so unique and it was infectious to everyone around him. A true asset in my life, full of humour and interesting conversations. The balance between the two and the ability to go between both in the click of a finger was a bond I will forever cherish. I will look at your face every day on my bedside table and will live up to your infectious characteristics (not you’re homeless phase haircuts). Rest in peace brother.

    Charles Kenny

  • I have known Lucas for about 4 or 5 years by working with his father Brett, I had often experienced the warm and kind hospitality in their family home. I don’t think I ever saw Lucas without a smile on his face. It was always a pleasure to spend time with him and he had such a positive attitude towards life. It is tragic that his life was cut short at such a tender age, whatever he would have done in life he would have been a great success. He radiated enthusiasm and kindness and he was destined to become one of life’s great entrepreneur.

    David Monks

  • I had the fortune of becoming close friends with Lucas from the very start of University. I couldn’t have asked to meet a better mate. He embodied a perfect fusion of relentless ambition and an amazing sense of humour. Whilst he was a driven, focused individual, he didn’t take himself too seriously at all. He could drive you on and make sure you’re doing what you need to, but also could have you on the floor laughing. Every conversation was interesting with Lucas, he bought a very unique perspective on virtually everything (especially the footy). What an unforgettable, amazing character. I consider my self beyond lucky to have been Lucas’ friend, living with him in my final year was an absolute joy. I will take his memory and character everywhere I go. Rest in peace brother.

    Louis Long

  • Lucas made such an impact in everyone’s lives. He was funny, kind and someone everyone looked up to. He was a true gent, he was a great sportsman but most important of all a great friend! I was fortunate enough to have him as my best man, even in a room full of people which most he didn’t know, he managed to set the room alight with laughter from his speech. He did an amazing job of getting people up to dance and just having an amazing time. I will always miss you Lucas! You’ll always be in my thoughts and memories, Rest in Peace.

    Ethan Kiernan

  • I remember playing football with Lucas on my first open day at KWC. It was such a welcoming experience as a new member of the school community, his outgoingness resonated through the year group and beyond.

    Danny Scott

  • Unfortunately only met Lucas once or twice when my youngest son, Gabriel, brought him home. He immediately struck me as being a remarkably polite, articulate, and charming young man with a bright future ahead. He was a loyal, encouraging and loving friend to Gabriel who talked about him often.

    Caroline Kay

  • I took Charles to start at Liverpool University, Lucas and Patrick were already there so I took us all out for supper. Covid restrictions were just beginning to lift, Track & Trace was in full swing, you needed to get apps, register, declare details etc just to get through the door of a restaurant. Who sorted it all - on the spot? Lucas of course. Charming and capable as ever. The boys were a delight that evening and I was so proud of them.
