Looky sadly passed away on September 12th 2023, aged 21, from meningitis. Despite the best efforts of doctors, and the wonderful care shown by the nursing staff at Nobles Hospital, he was unable to be saved. However, we are determined that this will not be the end of his story. You can read elsewhere on this website about how we plan to protect his legacy going forward, but first a little bit about the man….

Lucas Paul Martin (or ‘Looky’ as he quickly became known) came into this world on 3rd December 2001. Son to his beloved parents Brett and Nicky, brother to Connor and Bradley, and friend to so many.

From the get-go, Looky was a happy soul. His default setting was smiley, fun, cheeky and loud, and he brought passion and enthusiasm to everything he did.

He was truly an exhausting child to look after. Perhaps because he was the youngest of three boys, he always wanted to push the boundaries and compete with his older and bigger brothers. He could never understand why his parents forbade him playing Under-11 football when he was six, or from cliff jumping with his teenage brothers. Family holidays meant a full day of lifeguard duties for mum and dad!

Over the years, we watched as Lucas developed into an outstanding sportsman, and a natural leader.

He had all the best attributes of leadership – he listened, he encouraged, and he led by example. But what made him such a role model to his family and friends was the moral code that underpinned everything he did, whether it was on the field of play or in life more generally. He wasn’t just a captain on the sports field, he was a captain in life.

On this website’s home page, we’ve listed the values that made him the man he was – Love, Optimism, Ambition, Determination and Selflessness (or ‘LOADS’ for short). Meningitis robbed him of the chance to showcase these wonderful qualities to a wide audience, so we’re going to do it for him through this website. He’s no longer here to influence the world in person but there’s no reason why his values shouldn’t continue to shine through!

Our Looky Boy.
